Larry Cooke

In the Word Ministries had its beginning in 1986 ministering at Harris County Jail, Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Men’s Development Center and the Star of Hope Men’s Facility. God gave Larry a vision and compassion for reaching out to those behind bars and trapped in their addictions.

About Larry

Larry was born-again at the age of 26. He made Jesus the Lord of his life and was filled with the Holy Spirit. Larry did not even know how to read, BUT God taught Larry how to read by reading his Bible. The Bible was the first book Larry ever completed.

Larry and Shelle have been married for 28 years. Shelle has been an inspiration and support to Larry personally and to the ministry.

Background

After moving to Texas and learning the cultured marble business, Larry started Cooke Marble Company, Inc. in Katy, Texas in 1978. When the economy stalled in the mid-1980’s Larry started a painting company and painted houses, to supplement his family’s income for the next 17 years.  The painting company was a great success. Larry and his wife, Shelle, also made spin art t-shirts for craft shows and had a resale shop at their home. Larry always knew there was a tug on his heart for ministry. When he was not working or helping to raise his family, he was ministering in the afternoons, evenings and weekends.

The Cooke’s took a step of faith and went into full-time ministry in 2005 by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
